Safety Tips for Runners

Whether you are a runner, jogger, walker or just out for a stroll with your dog, safety is a concern. We have all heard stories from friends who knew someone who had something happen to them while they were out on a trail, in the fourth mile of running through suburbia or just out at a local high school doing some speed work on the track. Since launching Go Sport ID, I have been asked by a few people to post here on Running Safety. So here is a short list of ways to prepare yourself to be a little safer while you are
out there.

Pre-Workout:

Hydrate- We all know how important this is but it can’t be stressed enough.

Wear a form of ID- Your ID should include your name and emergency contacts names and phone numbers. It should also include any chronic conditions you might have like allergies, a heart condition, asthma or Continue reading “Safety Tips for Runners” »

Yay….Eating chocolate really is good for you…Happy International Chocolate Day!

Visit msnbc.com for

Chocolate…….! A new chocolate study from Cambridge University shows that eating chocolate may improve your heart health. To reduce the risk of developing cardiometabolic disease (stroke, heart attack, diabetes) by 30 percent researchers found that a diet high in chocolate consumption helped. One of my favorite is the dark chocolate with sea salt from Lindt. It is a little slice of heaven on days when I want a little something not to salty or sweet.
Check out Women’s Health Contributor Dr. Keri Peterson on The Today Show this morning explaining the heart health benefits of chocolate–and how you can take advantage of them without tipping the scale! For more information on how chocolate can benefit your health visit Lindt.

Eat to stay hydrated

Summer is here…and the heat is on. What are you eating to keep yourself hydrated thruout the day? We all know that water will keep us hydrated but, did you know that certain fruits and vegetables will too? 20% of our water in-take comes from food according to the Institute of Medicine. That is quite a bit. During the summer I try to eat at least one fruit or veggie with every meal. Summer is filled with water drenched fruits and veggies like watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, tomatoes, iceberg lettuce and cucumbers. Let’s get you feeling “Stronger” … Our new play list

This month’s play list starts out with one of my favorite songs to work out to, “Stronger” by Kanye West. I know, Kanye can be a tool, but his music is really good.  A lot of the music I choose is what isblaring out of the speakers at my gym . Quite often, I will be driving in my car and hear a song and it will mentally bring me back to a work out.
I suddenly have the urge to pick up a barbell, throw down some burpees, or climb a rope.  Hopefully these songs will do a good job of getting you through your work out or run, too.  And maybe, someday, when you’re not quite feeling up to exercising, you can put a song on and it will inspire you to getyour shoes on, go out, and git ‘er done.

You can find this months play list under “Stronger” in the play list tab on the right.

Happy Trails
