The 2013 Joggermom Marathon is open…..

The Virtual Joggermom Marathon…it’s not just a 26.2 mile race, it is an adventure!  How fun will this be to run and compete with other Moms all over the US virtually?!? We will be signing up Moms from February thru May 15th. On May 1st the race begins. Participating Moms can start recording mileage until they complete a total of 26.2 miles by May 31st.

Why a Virtual Marathon you may ask? Two reasons: 1) We are all Moms and finding time on the weekend to run in a race does not always happen. This way you can run with or without your children at your own leisure. It is a race but, it is not about who finished first or fastest. All who complete the race are winners. 2) I wanted to put on the Joggermom Marathon is to give back to other Moms. May is the month all of us Mothers are recognized, why not do something for ourselves this month with a promise to become more fit? This year 10% of your entry will go to the American Heart Association. Heart disease is the #1 killer in women.

Join us in January for 31 days of exercise….All we are asking is that you do 31 minutes every day!

We want to keep you motivated all month long….Being that most exercise regimens find you bored and ready to quit in 10 days we thought it would be fun to offer it all month long.

All you do is exercise…any exercise….for 13 minutes every day this month….Post about it….Facebook or use hash tag #Fitness13 on Twitter. Let us know throughout the month how you are doing….It is always good to have a support system in place (even the virtual kind) when you start to sway away from your fitness goals.

What stroller should you use to push in the snow?

This picture is more of a “what not to do” Click on picture to see the BOB “I am MOM” video of mom running thru snow.

I was recently asked what stroller is best to push in the snow? All I could think of is a BOB video that shows a mom running thru the snow with her stroller to get milk and eggs. I had to share it with you too! Be sure to click on the picture to see the video. It is pretty funny.

What to look for in a snow baby stroller:

  • Fixed Front wheel (wheels will actually work against you if they are in swivel mode
  • Large tires-Look for a 10″ or bigger (Remember the larger the wheel size the easier the push
  • Tires with grooves much like a mountain bike tire to grasp the surface it is being pushed on.
  • Tires you put in air into will get you where you want to go. Plastic tires will pop in extreme cold temperatures.
  • Tire rims you want to be covered not a shiny metal as that will rust when used in water or damp conditions for long periods of time.
  • It is recommended that you also use a stroller rain cover to keep your baby warm while you are out and about.

The stroller we recommend to take you where you want to go whether it be summer or winter would be the BOB Sport Utility Stroller or BOB SUS. It comes complete with shocks, large air filled tires with grooves to grasp the surface you push it on. It is only a fixed wheel which also makes it perfect for the snow or sand and the wheels are covered to avoid rust.

BOB- What a differece a stroller makes as told by Life’s Little Mashup

We recently shipped a new BOB Revolution SE to Kristin over at Life’s Little Mashup. Listen to what she had to say about her new jogger and how much she loves to run behind it (almost as much as her son loves to ride in it). “I could tell from the first moment we headed out with the new stroller that things were going to be different. I can not believe hard I was working before. I’m going to have to find another way to burn off the extra calories I used to push my first stroller. We took our usual route and I could feel the hesitation mounting as we got ready to hit the first uneven part of the sidewalk. It was amazing!! We flew over the bumps without a single problem. (Kaleb didn’t have to hang on for dear life) At that point I was totally hooked. The difference was unbelievable. My run was so relaxing I actually found my mind drifting for a while….

Kaleb says he really likes his new stroller! I used to joke before that running with the stroller was my “make up” run if I missed my run I was supposed to do on my own. Although I love going out with Kaleb, it was sometimes a total hassle to take the stroller out. Now I can really enjoy our runs together! There are so many things I love about my stroller, but a few of my favorites are that the handle bar hits me right at my waist, the handle bar console has cup holders that are so much deeper, the whole inside of the stroller seat is padded and the sun shade is so much bigger! Things have been massively improved for both of us.” For the complete jogging stroller review go here: http://www.lifeslittlemashup.blogspot.com/2012/12/strolling-along.html

Check out what is new from Mountain Buggy! Your going to like it….

Mountain buggy has started a new EVOLUTION of Mountain Buggy strollers for 2013!

The Terrain….A great running stroller just got better….

Not only does it now have a rigid front locking wheel (5% play is still an option too!) but, you can urbanize your stroller by purchasing the optional 12″ rear wheels. The Terrain Wheel Set will retail for $64.99. The best of both worlds! Starting to ship next month.

So What is all of this talk about an EVOLUTION?

Mountain Buggy has evolutionized itself with the introduction of the Mountain Buggy. They took their current line up of strollers and developed a new stroller based on feedback from parents from across the globe. Here is what they have come up with:

LISTEN. DEVELOP. DELIVER.

NEW STYLE GRAB BAR- One grip on, one grip off- a smarter clamp system onto the frame, allowing easier access in and out fo the stroller for the child

TAILFREE HARNESS- Clever and tidy new harness system, ensuring no harm to your child by any excess tail straps.

AUTOMATIC FRAME LOCK- An instant click to ensure that your stroller is secure to store away.

ZIP FABRIC SLING- Easy on, easy off the stroller frame for easy cleaning and or adding the optional bassinet.

If these new changes are not enough check out how you can now personalize your buggy. The new 2013 Urban Jungle and Swift offer hoods in different colors so you can mix and match your buggy. The hoods will be sold separately and retail for $34.99. That is a great price to re-fashion your stroller! Starting to ship next month!
Travel? Why not take the “Best City Adventurer” out for a stroll! The new Mini from Mountain Buggy weighs in at a slim 17 lbs. (same as the Baby Jogger City Mini) with a few extra features that will be a game changer for those of you that like to travel or need a lightweight stroller with full service options. Retail will be $349.99.
Top Features:

  • Lie Flat to Upright positioned seat
  • Seat capacity is 44 lbs
  • New Aerotech 10″ wheels (remember the rule about larger tires? “The larger the wheel size the easier the push”)
  • Included accesories: Cup Holder & Safety Wrist Strap
  • Customize your Mini with a different colored hood. Retails for $34.99
  • Pop out sun Visor
  • Full swivel front wheel makes it easier to maneuver in tight places.

For the love of the race t-shirt…..

Picture For those of you that have been running in races a white t-shirt and a medal used to be status quo. Most races have given up on giving out medals but, continue to give out race tee’s. 99% of your 5k or 10k races are still the white logo’d tees with the race graphic on the front and the sponsors on the back. I have 20+ of these white tee’s that I only use to clean house in. Who wants to run in cotton??? It keeps the sweat on your body and it does not breathe as well as a tech tee. For a little more money you can get a tech tee that you would actually run in again or wear a really cool graphic tee done on a color like this one shown above from the Westminster Women’s Classic put on by 3W races. I actually “wear” this cotton tee for every day things like going to soccer practices. It is a favorite! Still shows that I ran in a race but, it doesn’t shout it out like so many others do. I realize races need to get the word out about their cause and or race and they need to show their sponsors (I have been one of those sponsors and I am happy to wear a tee with my business on it). I also realize that a plain white tee with a graphic on the front is the best way to advertise their race.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could “opt out” of the tee or say the first 100 to register get a free tech tee? Just thoughts….I will continue to give out cotton tees but, sell the tech tee’s I hope those who wear them wear them because they like the graphics or logo….

Another thought is to give a sweat towel, visor or socks out to the racers…Personally, I miss the bling and would rather get a medal at the end of a race then a white cotton tee….need a few ideas on what to do with those white cotton tee? Check out this post on what to do with race tee’s, bibs and medals:  http://www.active.com/running/Articles/What-to-Do-With-Your-Old-Race-Bib-T-shirts-and-Medals.htm
