The race to the finish has begun!

Our race officially kicked off on May 1st. We are keeping registration open until May 15th as we know some of our veteran runners can finish in a week. The majority of us are fitting our mileage in where we can. For me, I am running 6 -7 miles a week or 1 mile a day with a few virtual 5k’s thrown in there for fun. For the average runner 1 mile only requires 10 minutes to complete. I know you can give yourself 10-20 minutes a day to take care of you!

Fun stuff….Many of you have not seen our race bib or finishers medal. I am attaching them below for you to click, save and print or post where you will. We need all finishers to send a picture with you and the bib. With the virtual finishers medal be sure to post it on your Facebook page (profile picture??), Pin it on Pinterest or Tweet about it on Twitter. Wear it proudly!

Joggermom Marathon 2012- Registration Open Now!

The Virtual Joggermom Marathon…it’s not just a 26.2 mile race, it is an adventure!  How fun will this be to run and compete with other Moms all over the US virtually?!? We will be signing up Moms from February 14th thru April 30th (Late registration has just opened and will close on May 15th midnite) to participate in our Virtual Joggermom Marathon. On May 1st the race begins. Participating Moms can start recording mileage until they complete a total of 26.2 miles by May 31st.

Why a Virtual Marathon you may ask? Two reasons: 1) We are all Moms and finding time on the weekend to run in a race does not always happen. This way you can run with or without your children at your own leisure. It is a race but, it is not about who finished first or fastest. All who complete the race are winners. 2) I wanted to put on the Joggermom Marathon is to give back to other Moms. May is the month all of us Mothers are recognized, why not do something for ourselves this month with a promise to become more fit? This year 10% of your entry will go to the American Heart Association. Heart disease is the #1 killer in women.

January’s Playlist…A little something to get your MoJo back after the holidays.

It is so hard to get back into running after the holiday break….I know, as I am still playing catch up from the kids being out of school. Having nice weather here in California makes it a little easier. I do not know what you do to motivate yourself to run in the snow but, my hat goes off to you. Here is a list I created with my son. It has some of 2011′s top songs and a few of my favorites. Playlist is about an hour long with a warm up and a cool down. Hope you enjoy them.

Enjoy,

Running really does get your motor running….

The Creative Brain On Exercise

I do not know about you but, I always feel more energized after a run, a walk or an hour long boot camp class. I feel the cob webs have lifted and things seem a little clearer.  I wanted to share an article I found that backs up my feelings. I am sure you are having these good feelings after your workout too!

For more than thirty years, Haruki Murakami has dazzled the world with his beautifully crafted words, most often in the form of novels and short stories. But his book What I Talk About When I Talk About Running (2008) opens a rare window into his life and process, revealing an obsession with running and how it fuels his creative process.

When caffeine just won’t do….Here is December’s playlist to give you a pick me up!

Happy Holidays! This month’s mix has a kind of Indie Rock/Austin SXSW feel to it.  Nice tunes for a little 2-3 mile jaunt to stretch your legs.  I particularly like that the first 3 songs have female lead vocalists that can belt it out!  This music is what you’ll reach for when you want a little pick me up, but won’t leave you feeling like you’re at a club surrounded by strobe lights and 20-somethings. December’s pick me up playlist!

Happy Trails,

11 steps to stop putting off what you can do today…

All of us put things off from time to time….Others put things off forever…I like to get the bad stuff over with first and then move onto what I really enjoy! Here is a list from my friend Dana over at Rockit Mom on how to get organized and get things done:

  1. Write it down (nothing feels better than crossing something off of a to-do list)
  2. Chose only one goal to attain
  3. Educate your on your goal
  4. Write it down. Be realistic. Make it achievable.
  5. Be Realistic. Make it achievable
  6. Broadcast to the public, put it on Twitter, Facebook and tell your friends to hold you accountable.
  7. Speaking of friends, don’t do it alone. Recruit a partner
  8. Ignore the obstacles and Do it!
  9. Do it again, again and again. Repetition will make it easier. Failure will occur, overcome it.
  10. Reward yourself. Little accomplishments must be celebrated (this is my personal favorite)
  11. Do it immediately. Procrastination is your enemy!

The year is almost over….It is time to finish strong, it is time to finish what you started 10 months ago!

Happy Trails,

The Thanksgiving Shuffle is our November Play List…

This month is inspired by one of the songs on the playlist, “Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid.
I dare you to listen to this song and not start showing yourswagger.  It’s the perfect song to pull up on your iPod when your batteries are running low at 3 in the afternoon and you’re pulling into Starbucks for a pick me up. Or more so, when you are at mile 3 or 4 and you are fighting to urge to walk a few steps. Now get out and go!

Choosing a Running Shoe that is right for you

Running Shoes……Are you wearing the right shoe for your runs?

By Nina Riha

Running Shoe Expert

Bargain hunting is great, but not the best idea when choosing a running shoe.  A few dollars saved at a discount store could be offset by doctor’s bills if you get injured, as well as time lost when unable to train.

The best idea would be to go to a specialty running store, like the Running Center.  Unlike a sporting goods store where employees need to have knowledge in many activities, a running store has people to help you with real running expertise. Continue reading
